Fullerton School District encourages parents and community members to get involved with their schools. Your participation enhances instructional and extra-curricular programs and motivates students. This site will provide you with information on how to volunteer with the Fullerton School District.

The goals of Fullerton School District are twofold:

1. To encourage and assist volunteers in their efforts to support student learning

2. To ensure the safety of our students at all times

After you have identified the type of service you wish to participate in, please complete an application, along with any required documents, and submit it to the appropriate school site. Applications are available in the FSD Volunteer Handbook provided below. To allow sufficient processing of your application, please submit your application at least three weeks prior to the event which you are volunteering for.

2022-2023 Vaccination Information for Volunteers:

Vaccinations: FSD is following ongoing guidelines from the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) regarding masking requirements and vaccination verification requirements for anyone working in schools (which includes volunteers):

One Time Volunteer: Campus Visitors are considered to be any members of the community that are visiting a school campus for a short period of time. These persons have no unsupervised exposure or contact with children without the supervision of a district staff member. Examples include guest readers, guest speakers, one-time volunteers for school or classroom events such as Read Across America Day, parents who attend school to eat lunch with or to participate in a parent involvement activity with their children. 

One time Volunteer Requirements:

Be sponsored or approved by a District employee

Sign-in/out of the office using the Raptor Visitor Management System and return badge

Present a form of current, government-issued photo identification

NOTE: An Application is NOT Required for a one-time volunteer

Non-Student Contact Regular Volunteer: Volunteers who assist with preparing classroom materials away from students and in a location such as the office or school work room.

Limited Student Contact: Volunteers who serve under the direct and constant supervision of a teacher or FSD staff member. For example, all campus events that include but are not limited to reading to the whole class, working with students at a learning center alongside the teacher, classroom assistance, participate in after-school programs, and athletic practices and events.

Tier II Volunteer Requirements:

• Be sponsored or approved by a District employee

• Sign-in/out of the office using the Raptor Visitor Management System and return badge

• Present a form of current, government-issued photo identification

• Read FSD Volunteer Handbook

• Submit signed Volunteer Application

• Submit to a tuberculosis risk assessment

Student Contact: Volunteers who are primarily supervised by a teacher or any FSD staff member, but may have brief periods of working alone with students or out of the sightline of District staff. For example, any off campus event such as field trips.Other examples include: working at a table with a small group of students, parent volunteers on a field trip where the class is split into smaller groups, overnight field trips, escorting small groups of students from the classroom to other locations on campus, mentoring activities, and working in a preschool classroom.

Tier III Volunteer Requirements:

• Be sponsored or approved by a District employee

• Sign-in/out of the office using the Raptor Visitor Management System and return badge

• Present a form of current, government-issued photo identification

• Read FSD Volunteer Handbook

• Submit signed Volunteer Application

• Submit to a tuberculosis risk assessment

• Clearance of Live Scan Fingerprints through Department of Justice (DOJ) & FBI

• PRESCHOOL ONLY - Submit Proof of Immunization records

California law requires that school staff and volunteers working with children be free of infectious tuberculosis (TB). Tier II and Tier III volunteers can obtain a TB Risk Assessment from a medical professional. Once the assessment has been completed, the volunteer should bring the signed form to the school office. This assessment needs to be completed once every four years. Any fees associated with the TB Risk Assessment are the volunteer's responsibility. If a medical practitioner requests a TB testing/risk assessment form, please download the attachment, also at the bottom of this page, called, "TB Risk Assessment 2018-19 for Nurse or Doctor."

In some instances, fingerprint clearance may be required before a volunteer may begin. If fingerprinting is required, volunteers must submit the Volunteer Application form (can be found in the Volunteer Handbook) to the school site. Volunteers will receive a live scan form from the school site, in which they will take the form to a live scan fingerprinting facility. At the live scan facility a volunteer will pay for the DOJ and FBI level of service, along with a rolling fee (a fee for having your live scan/fingerprints completed at the location/facility). The DOJ's fee is $32, FBI’s fee is $17, and locations' rolling fee vary. These fees will be payable to the Live Scan Center chosen by the volunteer applicant. FEES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE.

FSD also offers a Live Scan Center at the District Office at a discounted cost of $25 to parents. Parents must first apply to volunteer at the school site where their child attends. School sites then submit each completed and approved volunteer application to the appropriate District Office personnel. Once the approved application is received, someone from the District Office will contact each parent to schedule a Live Scan appointment and collect payment.
