About Me

  • Hello! Welcome to the "About Me" page! First and foremost, I want to introduce myself as "a teacher indefinitely". I have been teaching in some form or capacity for the last 27 years, and I plan to continue in teaching indefinitely.

I started tutoring English when I was 15, and I have taught, I teach, and I will teach, with excitement and enthusiasm, in some form or capacity for many years to come. Whether it was tutoring the neighborhood kids at 15 or a part-time job at the local Kumon during college, teaching has been a part of my life for decades. My desire to teach comes from something I value innately and inherently: Children.

I will never forget my first year as a public school teacher in a first grade classroom in Pomona, CA. Although I made an instant connection with the classroom and community, the connections I made with each and every student bonded me to an indefinite, lifelong mission.  When little six-year-old Taylor could not and would not come out from under the tables, I knew that children had a special place in my heart. Then, when I taught fourth grade in Claremont, CA, it was Sarah and Ben whose nine-year-old bodies with nineteen-year-old mindsets (saturated with the talent of  intellection) that made me realize that children are, indeed, my incurable curiosity. Needless to say, forevermore, I will allude to my mantra: I taught, I teach, and I will teach.

Why do I love it so much?

First, it’s a job that involves KIDS! Kids are smart, kids are creative and kids are super fun! Kids are naturally curious, inquisitive, caring and talented. Wholeheartedly, I believe that kids care about the world that they live in and the people around them, and it is a strong teacher who can open their eyes to more.

Second,  it is one one of the most creative career paths. No two days are ever alike (ever!), and teachers create incessantly. We create lessons. We create mindsets. We create ideas. We create writing. We create games. We create stories. We create videos. We create, create, and create more and more with each passing day.

I am a lifelong learner, from Preschool until today. I attended a Montessori near my birthplace, Lancaster, PA, a local public elementary school in Cerritos, CA, and a college-prep magnet high school, Whitney High School. From there, I attended the University of California, Irvine (UCI), Claremont Graduate University (CGU) and California State University, Fullerton (CSUF). Today, I am learning Spanish with my Spanish learning Apps, Video-Creation with TechSmith, and digital art with Adobe.

What was your major in college?

As an English major, I had the opportunity to work with literary theorists, historians, writers, and poets, and I had an opportunity to explore a variety of literary pieces for analysis and examination alongside world-renowned researchers. UCI’s undergraduate program gave me the initiative and impetus to hone each and every part of my writing, challenging me to improve my writing daily.

As a Classics major, I had an opportunity to  experience pieces of the original foundations of classical literature, culture, and history.  Through a comprehensive study of the Latin and Greek languages, I was able to translate works and learn about the culture of classical antiquity. One of my favorite courses, Classical Mythology, introduced me to many of the gods and heroes of Greece and Rome.
