Mrs. Patinella
Hello!
I'm Mrs. Patinella, but you can call me "Mrs. Pat." I'm the Theater teacher, and I'm probably wearing weird socks today.
I love teaching Theater, because it connects with so many other subjects. You will learn skills that you can use in real life, which is kind of the point of school, right? :)
In my classes, we learn about Theater history, basics of acting, confidence building, stress management, character development, improvisation...I'm probably forgetting some things. Theater is fun. I promise. Even if you're not in my classes, feel free to stop by and say hi!

Is Theater a year-long class?
Theater 1 is a semester long course. Theater 2, the film class, is a semester long, with a year long option (you can choose to stay for the entire year), and LVP is a year long committment, by audition only.
-
What Theater classes are offered?
We currently offer three levels of Theater--Theater 1 (that's the basics), Theater 2 (Acting for the Camera and Film Production), and LVP (our musical theater class).

Mrs. Pat, why do you teach Theater?
Theater is like play time for big kids! You can pretend to be anything you want--ANYTHING! I love telling stories, and sometimes it's just fun to pretend, right?
Everyone has a voice and deserves to be heard, but sometimes we find it difficult to express our thoughts or be who we really are. I want to help students find their voice, build confidence, and leave my class feeling comfortable with speaking to a group, so they can be heard, and express themselves in a safe and healthy way. Also, learning stage combat with pool noodles is super fun.

When am I ever going to use the stuff we learn in Theater?
ALL THE TIME! You have to know how to communicate with people--interviewing for jobs, building relationships, social interactions, on the job (later), giving speeches in classes,...and, if you have ever thought about being an actor, theater class is a must! These are skills you will use your entire life. Take the class--it's fun!
-
I've never done Theater before. What do you do in class?
We talk about Theater history, how to manage stress when performing, the basics of presentation, improvisation, and character development. We also play games, do projects related to history and performance techniques, and work in teams to create amazing presentations.
-
Do we have to perform in Theater class?
Well, theater is largely about performance, so yeah,...but performances are only for your classmates in your Theater class period. You will not have to do a big performance for the school, or anything.
