  • ELAC: English Learner Advisory Committee

    What is ELAC? An English Learner Advisory Committee is intended for parents or guardians of English Learners to advise the principal and school staff on programs and services for English learners. Inform parents about the various facts of the English Learner Master Plan so they may make informed decisions about the programs and services their children are receiving. Lastly, it provides a forum where topics pertaining uniquely to the needs of parents of ELs can be presented and discussed.

    When is my school or district required to have an ELAC or DELAC Committee? An ELAC is required when a school in California has 21 or more English Learners (ELs), regardless of the language, the school must have a functioning English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC). A DELAC is required if there are 51 or more students classified as  English Learners (ELs) in a district, a District-wide English Learner Advisory Committee (DELAC) must be established.
