Sight Words / High Frequency Words
-
Now is a great time to do some daily practice and learning of sight words! Knowing these with automaticity (ability to read them quickly without hesitation or sounding out) will help improve students' reading fluency tremendously!!!
The Fullerton School District suggests that students master 100 of the Fry Sight Word Lists each year.
Kindergarten -- the first 100 (1 - 100)
First Grade -- the second 100 (101 - 200)
Second Grade -- the third 100 (201 - 300)
Third Grade -- the fourth 100 (301 - 400)
And so on . . . There are actually ten lists of 100 sight words in the Fry lists, plus a list of 100 nouns.
Please look at the file below to understand the levels of sight word knowledge -- students must be able to recognize, decode, write, and understand these words.
