• WELCOME BACK to the 2022-2023 School Year!

    Dear Students and Parents,

WOW! The summer went by very fast and we hope it was a happy one for all.  We are excited to be back and to begin an action packed year!

It is important to us that Physical Education is a fun and positive experience for all students.  Our activities guide and encourage physical fitness, promote development of motor skills, increase knowledge and skills in sport activities, encourage social interaction and sportsmanship and boost self-esteem.

We would appreciate your cooperation in helping us provide a healthy and safe environment for your children.

Welcome to the course of Physical Education and/or Intramural Sports. We are so excited to be back outside with everyone! Our objective is for you and your family to develop an appreciation towards lifetime physical activity. Our goals are that students will be able to:

    1. Demonstrate competency/proficiency in a variety of movement forms.

    2. Apply movement concepts to the development of motor skills

    3. Achieve/maintain a health-enhancing level of physical fitness

    4. Demonstrate responsible personal and social behavior

    5. Understand and respect individual differences

    6. Understand that physical activity provides the opportunity for enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and social interaction.

The course is designed to engage students in a variety of individual and team movement activities that range from the traditional basketball/volleyball/softball to more modern areas such as lacrosse/ultimate frisbee/handball. We will also discuss participating in a variety of lifetime activities such as golf/tennis and swimming which can be played and enjoyed with family members in the community regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, and/or skill level. The curriculum content activities include:

    1. Fitness test (pre and post)
    2. Cooperative games
    3. Pickleball/Paddles
    4. Volleyball
    5. Team Handball
    6. Field Hockey
    7. Soccer
    8. Lacrosse
    9. Basketball
    10. Badminton
    11. Broomball
    12. Circuit Training
    13. Ultimate Frisbee

Students will gain knowledge of physical education content from lecture, note-taking, making log entries daily/selected handouts/visual aid posters, teacher/student demonstrations, guided/individual/partner practice, modified game play, and tournaments. Students will be required to attend, dress out, and participate everyday. They must have PE clothes, socks, a pair of tennis shoes, Google Doc for PE, or 3 ring notebook with loose leaf paper, and a pencil. Students will also take fitness tests, skills tests, written tests, and a final exam as well as complete projects for homework.

The classroom environment will be safe, positive, challenging, and high time- on-task.

Students are responsible for any lost/stolen personal belongings. Students are required to use an assigned locker and lock it. They are not allowed to share a locker, give out their combination/key, or set their lock so that it will open for anyone/everyone. Students are not allowed to touch other students/others belongings, horseplay, or litter. Students will treat school property (equipment, gym, locker, locker room, etc.) with respect and care. They should be in their assigned seats at the beginning of class (before the tardy bell sounds) and at the end of class (after dress out).). Restroom and water breaks should be taken care of before and/or after class. Students are expected to behave professionally (KSRR, prompt, prepared, dress out, participate, respectful, cooperative, and be SAFE).

Students are encouraged to take their physical education clothes home weekly and wash/dry them for sanitary reasons. Also, it is recommended that students have personal hygiene items such as: deodorant, hairbrush, hand sanitizer, towel, etc. stored in their locker (on an as need individual basis).

Thank you to the student for participating in Physical Education this year!

    Sincerely,

    Laura McIntosh
