Mrs. Hogerhuis and Mrs. Sapien love teaching in the ABC Multiage!
Both teachers have a passion for teaching, and their skills complement each other in a unique and wonderful way. Mrs. Sapien recently replaced Mrs. Hood, after Mary retired after 19 years in the program. Mrs Sapien's interest in all things theatrical/movement, music, and visual art makes for a dynamic team with which your child will explore performance arts for four years. Mrs. Hogerhuis brings a wealth of diverse experiences to teaching: she taught migrant children in the desert for a few years, and has been part of ABC since 2016 as a teacher. We both had children who have been through our program.
In addition, both teachers love using visual arts as a springboard for writing projects and see this as a powerful form of expression.

Mrs. Hogerhuis is a lifetime resident of Fullerton! She was born at St. Jude Hospital. She grew up here and attended local schools: Commonwealth, Hermosa, Ladera Vista Junior High, and Troy High School. If you want to know anything about Fullerton, she's the one to ask!
Mrs. Hogerhuis earned her Associate Degree from Fullerton College, and then got her Bachelors of Science in Child Development from California State University, Fullerton in 2005. She got her teaching credential from CSUF as well in 2006.
Mrs. Hogerhuis has been teaching since 2014. She subbed in the Fullerton School District for many years and has an intimate knowledge of many of the schools in the district. She also taught in the Coachella School District for two years, at a school that served migrant children. While this was rewarding work, she was happy when this job opened up, giving her the opportunity to work in the classroom where she did elementary fieldwork, and where her own children attended school for over 10 years. She says her heart was always in Fullerton, but in order to clear her credential, she worked in Coachella Valley, and is happy about that experience as well.
Mrs. Hogerhuis married in 2001 and chose to continue growing their family here. The Hogerhuises have three children who all went through FSD and Troy High. Her oldest continued on locally at CSUF, while her middle child is across the country at Rochester Institute of Technology. The youngest has another year in high school. She is a very proud mom and will talk your ear off about them if you let her.
Mrs. Hogerhuis loves animals, and currently has two large rescue dogs. Charlotte is a lab mix and Ricky is a Heinz-57 mix of some sort. Ricky came to belong to the family when he appeared at her school in the desert. She couldn't just let him wander alone, so she rescued him, and he's now part of the family and living his best life in Fullerton!
The family enjoys spending time supporting each other. They also LOVE spending time at the movie theater enjoying the latest Marvel, Disney, and SciFi movies.
She eats out (too much she says) at local restaurants, and loves going to the movies with her family. She should own stock in Del Taco (the best tea!), Target, and Amazon as well.

Mrs. Sapien grew up in Downey, CA where her parents owned a Mexican food restaurant which just happens to be Mrs. Sapien’s absolute favorite kind of food. She spent a lot of time with her great-grandparents, traveling between California and Nevada. She met her future husband during high school while doing community theatre in Long Beach and after several years living there, they moved to Brea to be closer to their son’s school... Rolling Hills!
Mrs. Sapien achieved her Bachelor of Arts degree in American Studies in 2008 from California State University, Fullerton. She got her multiple subject teaching credential through Cal State Teach, an online California State University teaching program that emphasizes practical classroom experience. She completed over 1000 hours of student teaching in grades 2, 3, 3/4 and 5. Mrs. Sapien is a dedicated life-long learner and she is looking forward to returning to school to complete her Master’s in Education.
Before becoming a teacher, Mrs. Sapien was a dedicated parent volunteer in the ABC multiage program! Mrs. Sapien substituted in the Fullerton and Brea-Olinda School Districts for many years and she has completed two long-term substitute teaching assignments: one at Valencia Park in 2016-17 as an upper grade Resource Specialist for 5 months and during 2017-18, as a 2nd grade teacher for 7 months at Beechwood Elementary. Mrs. Sapien is thrilled to be starting her second year here with the amazing students of Rolling Hills ABC multiage.
Mrs. Sapien is married and has three children. Addam went through the ABC and Upper Grade multiage programs at Rolling Hills and is currently at Fullerton High after attending Ladera Vista Junior High School of the Arts. Kaine and Jauna are also in multiage classes at Rolling Hills.
Mrs. Sapien loves spending time with her family. She keeps busy with their many interests and activities, like dance, theatre and sports. They are always planning new places to go and experience. Some of their favorite places to visit locally include riding the train to Los Angeles to explore museums, theatres, and other attractions; finding fun, new outdoor spaces like campgrounds and hiking trails; and all things Disney!
Mrs. Sapien loves to create. In their precious little free time, she and her husband collaborate on pop culture inspired mixed media art and sewing projects. She also loves to read, drink coffee and should hold stock in Amazon and Target for all the shopping she does there!
