Classroom Updates and Announcements
Hello room 13 families,
It's hard to believe we are heading into Thanksgiving break! Just one more week to go! Here are a few announcements:
The homophone project assigned last week is due this Friday, 11/22. The children are expected to do this work, but it's helpful if an adult assists them with following the directions carefully, and encourages them to do their best work. This project is worth 20 points of your child's 2nd trimester reading grade. Late assignments will lose points. The kids are welcome to turn in their projects early if they'd like.
We will finish up our study of chapter 4 in math and have a test this Friday, 11/22. The kids will complete a chapter review in class on Thursday that is very similar to the test. They should bring it home with them Thursday to help them review for the test.
We are collecting donations for Pathways of Hope in our classroom until Friday, 11/22. Non-perishable food, toys, gift cards, and gently used items are all welcome. We are hoping to fill our donation box this week!
It's time for the kids who have not yet mastered multiplication facts to ten to start daily practice at home as part of their homework. They have an app called Reflex that they can use to practice, but 10-15 minutes of daily practice with an adult is best. Separate flashcards into sets (2's, 5's, 3's, 4's, etc) and have your child master a set at a time. Add on as they are ready, and review. Repetition is key. The third grade standard is to have times tables to ten memorized with automaticity by the end of the year. However, we would like them to have fact fluency before then. After Thanksgiving break, we will begin occasional fact testing to monitor progress.
