• Dance Production/Dance Team

This class and commitment is the highest level of dance offered at Nicolas Junior High School. Our Dance Team is often referred to as "the face of Nicolas" since we not only perform at in- school events like concerts, assemblies, sports games, school dances and speciality events, we also perform at several community events like; FSD STEM Nation, FSD Block Parties, FSD Innovation Experience, Fullerton Rotary Jogathon and perform in the high school dance concerts. Dancers in this class must maintain superior grades, behavior and attendance to secure their spot on the team. Offered as one class period during the school day, members of the Nicolas Dance Team are expected to commit several additional hours of practice and performances outside of school hours. The Dance Team members are the same members who cheer at all of our FSD Sports League Games which are held after school. Dance Production members are also given the opportunity to assist Ms. Kim in lower level dance classes where they will develop leadership and choreography skills. Dancers who are interested in joining the Nicolas Dance Team must go through the multi- day audition process, see the "audition information" tab for more info. Dance will count as their PE credit.

    Advanced Dance/Dance 3

As the third highest tier of our Nicolas Dance Program, Advanced Dance also participates in many in- school and outside of school events and performances. Advanced Dancers work on multiple styles of dance including but not limited to; jazz, hip- hop, lyrical, musical theater and many more. These select dancers perform in both the winter and spring concerts at Nicolas and participate in student choreography projects. Dancers interested in Dance 3 must also go through the audition process, dance will count as their PE credit.

    Intermediate Dance/Dance 2

Intermediate Dance is a building class for those who have taken Beginning Dance/Dance 1 at Nicolas or have previous dance experience. Dancers will continue and expand upon previously learned skills and continue their growth as a dancer. Intermediate dancers will strengthen their craft through daily participation and performances in at least two dance concerts within the school year. Dancers interested in Dance 2/Intermediate Dance must also go through the audition process, dance will count as their PE credit.

    Beginning Dance/Dance 1

Dance 1 is an introductory dance class to students interested in dance and performance. Dancers will focus on foundational dance skills like stretching/flexibility, basic technique and choreography skills. These dancers perform at our end of the year Spring Concert and have the opportunity to choreograph their own dance and perform it at the concert. Dancers interested in Dance 1 are strongly encouraged to audition because space in each class is limited and often exceeded each year. Those who audition are typically guaranteed a spot in a dance class and those who register but don't audition, may not get the class because it is a highly desired elective/PE credit class on campus.
