Math
This year in math, we will be covering many topics such as adding and subtracting multi-digit numbers, basic multiplication and division, fractions, perimeter and area, and 2d shapes! We use the GoMath curriculum and students will be doing most of their work in their practice books. There are many great apps we use during math time as well, including iReady Math and Reflex. Each child will receive support, interventions, and enrichment as needed.
Reading
For reading, we will be using a combination of the Wonders curriculum and a selection of novel studies throughout the year. There will also be a focus on spelling, vocabulary, and grammar. Students will receive reading support, interventions, and enrichment as needed.
Writing
Students will publish three writing pieces this year: narrative, informational, and opinion. Students will be participating in the process of Writer's Workshop, which consists of a 5 to 10 minute mini-lesson provided by the teacher, a short practice activity, several sustained minutes of independent writing during which the teacher conducts individualized student writing conferences, and time at the end of the writing session for students to share their work!
Science
We will be covering many exciting topics in science this year! These topics include: Playground Forces, Life Cycles for Survival, Surviving in Changing Environments, and Weather Impacts. We will be learning through many different engaging modalities, such as hands-on activities, virtual field trips, art journaling, and more!
Social Studies
In 3rd grade, topics we will be covering include the native indigenous groups of our area, identifying geographical features, the history of Fullerton, economy, laws, and the basic structure of the US Government. Social Studies lessons are supplemented using engaging resources such as Nearpod, Brainpop and Epic!
