• Rotary Club Tiny Home Visit

Posted by Nathan and Samantha on 5/23/2024 2:00:00 PM

Today the Rotary Club came to visit Nicolas including the Tiny Home. They were greeted by the Dance Team and Leadership students, enjoyed some treats, then went to see the Tiny Home.  The Rotary club learned about the Tiny Home from two wood shop students who explained the whole process of working on the Tiny Home to them. Small groups went on a tour of the Tiny Home and checked out everything about the home. They also toured the Nicolas Community Center and watched the dance team perform in the MPR.  We’re glad and thankful that the Rotary club got to visit Nicolas and see what we are all about!

  • Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

Posted by Nathan and Samantha on 5/21/2024 2:00:00 PM

Today our Wood Shop students were honored at the ribbon cutting ceremony in front of the Tiny Home! So many important people, including Mayor Dunlap, attended the ceremony. One of our amazing leadership students, Allison Rosales, spoke about the documentation ASB has captured and the progress of the Wood Shop students' work.  Wood Shop student, Lizzy Tapia talked about all the work the wood shop class has done and what they have learned in the process.  A few 1st/2nd grade classes from Orangethorpe Elementary came to the ceremony and attended a Home Depot workshop class to create a bird feeder with the help of Nicolas leadership and Wood Shop students. After the speeches and the ribbon was officially cut, groups were allowed to tour the Tiny Home. We are so proud of all of our students and faculty included in this amazing, inspiring project. We can’t wait to see what next year’s students will accomplish!

  • Tiny Home Update

Our amazing Wood Shop students are about 6 days away from the Tiny Home Ribbon Cutting Ceremony! A group of students is working on the casings around the windows and the cabinets have been painted and are drying so they can be installed.  The rest of the students are working on their career research project.  Our amazing district maintenance and operations crew has been working hard on plumbing, electrical, tapping and mudding the drywall, painting, laying the flooring, and installing fixtures.  This project is truly a team effort and the students are learning just what goes into completing a project like this on a deadline.

  • Fullerton City Council Presentation

Posted by Nathan and Samantha on 5/7/2024 8:00:00 PM

This evening, eight students, four from Nicolas and four from Parks attended the Fulleron’s City Council Meeting in support of the Tiny Home Project.   The four students from Parks Jr. High presented at the Fullerton City Council Meeting about what they have researched and learned about the Tiny Home project and its purpose. They have become advocates and thought partners in the Fullerton community through access to this life-changing project and are working to spread the word and need to further the project in the future.  The girls did a great job representing the work the Nicolas students have put into the Tiny Home and its purpose, to help a local family in need.

Our Wood Shop students are adding the finishing touches to the tiny home! They are finishing the final touches on the bathroom in order for plumbers to come next week.

They’re also finishing insulation on the outside walls, and they continue to put up drywall on the outside of the bathroom. Another type of special drywall is being put inside the bathroom. Recently, the final window was put up. The wood shop students are now framing the windows to make it look nice and professional for the family who’s going to live there. We are super excited to see the project completed!

  • Drywall Installation

Posted by Allison and Samantha on 4/24/2024 3:00:00 PM

The construction crew is finishing up with the window installation and the students are working on installing installation and drywall inside the Tiny Home.  They are learning how to measure and cut the drywall to fit, how to screw it to the studs without damaging the drywall and how to work in difficult areas.  Drywalling the ceiling is not easy!  They are making great progress with less than a month until the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Our wood shop students have been making fantastic progress! They have framed the shower completely, added electrical and metal protectors for the wires. Due to the rain, the students have been protecting the house and windows with a tarp. The students have now uncovered the windows and the house and continue persevering throughout the process. Our students are enthusiastic about finishing the project, and are really excited to help a family in need! • Build Day #4

Posted by Nathan, Hope and Esmeralda on 2/24/2024 1:00:00 PM

Our Wood Shop students never stop working!  This Saturday they finished a lot during their build time. Some students worked on cutting out the windows. In the meantime, others were finishing up the moisture barrier installation that protects the wood from the rain. While the exterior was being measured for siding and proper sealing was being checked by the contractors, the students started cleanup and dumping the trash. The Wood Shop students are extremely diligent workers!
