• PE Rules

    1. Students are expected to be on time to class by being seated on their roll call number after the tardy bell rings and after the 4-minute changing period in the locker room.
    2. Students must dress in PE uniforms daily, even if not actively participating.
      • PE shirts must always be tucked in.
      • Sweatpants or sweatshirts are recommended when the weather cools. PE sweatpants and sweatshirts are available for purchase.
      • If not wearing PE-issued sweatpants or sweatshirts, PE shirts and shorts must be worn on top of any other clothing.
    3. If students forget their PE clothes, “loaners” will be assigned for them to wear for the day.
      • Dressing out for PE is mandatory, not optional. Students who choose not to dress in proper PE attire will receive a discipline referral and will not be allowed to participate in the day’s lesson.
    4. Students must bring a parent or doctor’s note if unable to participate in class. The note must be turned into the Attendance Office before school.

    Parent/Doctor Notes
Parent notes excusing students from PE due to illness or injury will be accepted to excuse students from rigorous PE activities lasting three days or less. A doctor’s note is required on the fourth day to continue to be excused (per CA law). Students must still dress out even if they have an excuse. Parent notes do not excuse students from dressing out or walking. An alternate assignment worth 10 points per day will be given to students with a doctor’s note excusing them from all physical activity.

    Grade Breakdown
    A (90%–100%):                   25% Assessments (push-ups, jump rope, mile, PACER)
    B (80%–89%):                     75% Participation/effort & dressing out
    C (70%–79%)
    D (60%–69%)
    F (Below 60%)

    Daily Grading Scale
Students will be graded using a points system. There are 10 possible participation points per day. Assessments are also worth up to 10 points each.

Point deductions for daily participation are as follows:

    • Preparedness: Student is wearing assigned PE clothes (2 points)
    • Participation: Student is actively engaged in the PE lesson (2 points)
    • Dressed out: Student is fully dressed in PE clothes or loaners (2 points)
    • Behavior: Student follows directions; is safe and respectful (2 points)
    • Promptness: Student arrives on time to class and exits the locker room on time (2 points)
    • Discipline problems: -1 to -10 points
    • No dress: -10 points

Since PE is primarily a participation-based class, students must be present in class to earn daily points. Students with unexcused absences will be required to complete a make-up activity to receive credit for the day(s) missed. Make-up activities must be completed by Friday of the week following the absence to receive credit.

    Locker Room
Discipline problems in the locker room may result in loss of locker room privileges:

    • 1st offense: 1-day suspension from the locker room
    • 2nd offense: 1-week suspension from the locker room
    • 3rd offense: 1-quarter suspension from the locker room
If the problem persists after the third offense, the student will lose locker room privileges for the remainder of the school year.
